The scholarship program at New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) has awarded five $5,000 prizes to selected applicants who have shown scholastic excellence and are interested in advancing their education in any field of study.

“The volume and quality of applications we received was a strong reflection of our member’s exceptional academic achievements and community engagement,” said Sarah Ricker, community relationship manager at NEFCU. “We were impressed with the over 100 students who are on a path for knowledge and strengthening their financial future.”

The credit union is pleased to announce this year’s winners:

  • Aiyana Auer of St. Albans, who is studying at Endicott College to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Jacob Medici of Williston, who is studying Computer Science and Mathematics at Northeastern University.
  • Peyton Metruk of Fairfax, who is an English major at Wesleyan University.
  • Rory McLane of Worcester, who is pursuing a degree in Finance at Washington University, St. Louis.

“I’m incredibly honored and grateful to be a recipient of the 2024 NEFCU scholarship,” said McLane. “These funds will significantly alleviate the financial burden of my undergraduate education and help enable me achieve my academic pursuits as I study finance and math next year at WashU.”

“Thank you so much to NEFCU and VSECU for this scholarship award. I will be using the scholarship money to participate in a Spanish Language Immersion study abroad course in Argentina in January 2025,” said Taft Cole. “As I am majoring in Spanish in college, this experience will be a huge asset to my Spanish language knowledge as I have never traveled to this part of the world before. I am immensely grateful for this scholarship!”

For over 25 years, NEFCU has awarded annual scholarships to students in our local community, totaling over $350,000.
